The Basics: Treadmill and the Bike

The treadmill and the bike can be used for much more than just your basic warm-up. In the clinic, we use it for muscular and cardiovascular endurance as well as improving strength, range of motion, balance, and walking patterns.

- Electrical Stimulation Units

- E-stim units provide an electrical current to a body part or region to decrease swelling and pain. It also increases muscle recruitment and decreases muscle tone.
- Ultrasound Units

- The ultrasound uses micro-pulsed soundwaves to reduce swelling and muscle tone. It can also provide a deep heat to hard to reach muscle fibers as well.
- Mechanical Traction Unit

- The mechanical traction unit provides a gentle pull on the spine to increase space between the vertabra which helps to decrease pain, numbness, and tingling in an effected extremity.
- Jacob's ladder

- Jacobs ladder is an innovative machine that allows us to treat our patients more effectively. It can be used for a variety of patients that are recovering from a multitude of spinal conditions, joint replacement, and can be very specific to the recovering worker in our work conditioning program. In addition to its assistance in recovery from musculoskeletal conditions it is very effective for patients who suffer from limited endurance and balance impairments. Overall an excellent tool for our staff!
- Functional capacity evaluation machine

- The Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) is a two-day assessment of the client's functional capabilities. The test safely and objectively measures:
- •repetitive lifting capacity at various levels
- •repetitive push, pull, and carrying capacities
- •hand grip strength
- •tolerance for elevated work
- •prolonged trunk flexion in sitting and standing
- •prolonged trunk rotation in sitting and standing
- •prolonged crawl, knee and sustained crouch positions
- •repetitive squat
- •tolerance for prolonged sitting and standing
- •maximum walking, stairs and stepladder capacity
- •balance
- •hand coordination
- •foot coordination
Did You Know?
Important tips for proper lifting are to first size up the load and what you are lifting. Get help if you feel the load may be to heavy or awkward to lift alone. If possible, push rather then pull. You can push 2x as much. Also, bend at the hips and knees when lifting up and never bend at the back. Don't twist when lifting and never carry objects in a bent forward position.
Bands and Weights

Weights, bands, and balls are tools in our clinic's arsenal that are used on a daily basis. They are used for strengthening and stretching which increases the muscle's range of motion and flexibility. They also provide resistance that in turn increases strength. Physioballs are used to improve balance which decreases the risk of falling and future injuries.

Strategies
We provide one on one care with an individual treatment plan based on your functional limitations and personal goals. We utilize the most up to date techniques from courses, seminars, and research publications.
We work to decease pain and inflammation followed by restoring motion and strength. And we provide our patients with home exercise programs to prevent further injury or reoccurence of symptoms.
